Tattoo aftercare instructions

Aftercare techniques vary from artist, tattoo, location and size, so it would be best to consult your tattooer about aftercare instructions, as we are knowledgeable in proper tattoo aftercare/healing. When healing with a waterproof bandage, it is best to leave the bandage covering the tattoo for 4-7 days if possible, or the recommended amount of time per your tattooer.

You may expect to see a pocket of dark fluid collect in the bandage. This is normal, and should remain in the bandage if possible.

If your bandage peels back and any part of your tattoo is exposed, or the fluid pocket leaks from the bandage, it should be removed immediately and discarded. Any opening in the bandage could allow bacteria to enter, which could potentially cause infection or other complications with your tattoo. After removing your bandage, follow the instructions below

Wash your hands thoroughly. Once clean, wash your tattoo using warm water and liquid antibacterial soap (such as Dial) until it is completely free of any ointment/dried fluid/bandage residue, which may take more than one wash, then rinse your tattoo with cool water. Once clean, allow your tattoo to air dry for a minimum of 15 minutes, and do not rebandage unless otherwise instructed. Once the tattoo is completely dry, you can apply an unscented, preferably water-based lotion (such as Aveeno) as needed. Do not oversaturate your tattoo, only use enough to absorb into the skin. Tattoos should be washed around 3x every day, and/or if the tattoo comes into any contact with any dirty surfaces. Repeat these steps daily for around 2 weeks, until your tattoo is fully healed.
